Dr. Muhammad Shahzeb Khan

MD, MSc
Dr. Khan oversees the strategic direction and vision of Global Diagnostics and Therapeutics in Medicine. Dr Khan is a physician scientist at Baylor College of Medicine and Baylor Scott and White Research Institute in Texas, USA. He holds a Master of Science in Clinical Research from Rush University Medical Center and completed a Fellowship in Cardiology at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Khan has made significant contributions to cardiology, authoring over 450 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Khan is an internationally recognized expert in cardiometabolic diseases, cardio-oncology and heart failure. He is involved in various pivotal clinical trials, and his research has been supported by various industry sponsors. Dr Khan is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences on various cardiology topics including obesity, lipids, and diabetes. His work has been published in world’s most prestigious journals such as New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, Nature Reviews Cardiology, Circulation and Journal of American College of Cardiology.  His research focuses on drug development and clinical trials of cardiometabolic therapies. As the founder of the Research Council of Pakistan (RCOP), Dr. Khan also mentors medical students in advanced research techniques, preparing them to become future leaders in medicine.

Yuhui Zhang

MD, PhD
Dr. Zhang is director of the Heart Failure Center and Heart Failure Care Unit at Fuwai Hospital and the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases in Beijing, China. She serves as General Secretary of several major national initiatives, including the China Heart Failure Association of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Expert Working Group on Heart Failure at the National Center for Quality Control of Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Zhang is also a Vice Director of the Heart Failure Group at the Chinese Society of Cardiology, a member of the Heart and Vascular Committee of the Chinese Women Physicians Association and holds advisory roles with the ESC Heart Failure Association and JACC: CardioOncology. She has authored over 20 national guidelines on heart failure, including the China National Heart Failure Guideline 2023, and serves as Editorial Director of the Chinese Journal of Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy. Her contributions have been recognized through national honors, including “National Famous Doctor” titles and designation as a leading talent in scientific and technological innovation by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China in 2023.

Michael E. Hall

MD
Dr. Hall is a Professor of Medicine and Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), where he also holds the Patrick H. Lehan Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine. He specializes in hypertension, heart failure, advanced cardiovascular imaging, and obesity-induced cardiovascular and renal disease. Dr. Hall has published over 150 research manuscripts and book chapters, and he is an investigator on multiple NIH-funded projects. He has received numerous accolades, including the 2023 Platinum Award for Research. As an educator, Dr. Hall has mentored numerous fellows, residents, and students, and in 2022, he received the Trailblazer Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society in 2021. Dr. Hall was honored with the 2024 Southeastern Conference Faculty Achievement Award for his contributions to teaching, research, and service. He is also a coauthor of the Guyton and Hall Textbook of Medical Physiology, a leading resource in medical education.
Cardiology

Dr. Javed Butler

MD, MPH, MBA

Dr. Butler, formerly the Chair of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), now serves as President of the Baylor Scott and White Research Institute and Senior Vice President for Baylor Scott and White Health. He continues his academic connection with the UMMC as a Distinguished Professor of Medicine. Dr. Butler earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University, completed his residency at Yale University, and underwent fellowships in cardiology heart failure and transplant at Vanderbilt University, along with cardiac imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital. He also holds an MPH from Harvard and an MBA from Emory. Board-certified in cardiology and heart failure and transplant medicine, Dr. Butler has received prestigious awards, including the Simon Dack Award from the American College of Cardiology and the Time, Feeling, and Focus Award from the American Heart Association. He has authored over 1,000 peer-reviewed publications.

Tazeen Jafar

MD, PhD

Dr. Jafar is a Professor in the Health Services and Systems Research Programme at Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore and a Research Professor at the Duke Global Health Institute in the United States. She also serves as Chair of Global Health Partnerships for the International Society for Hypertension and as a Visiting Consultant in Renal Medicine at Singapore General Hospital. As a graduate of Aga Khan University with a Master of Public Health from Harvard, Dr. Jafar is an internationally recognized physician-scientist and practicing nephrologist whose work focuses on hypertension and kidney disease in low- and middle-income countries. She has led several landmark trials, including the COBRA-BPS study published in the New England Journal of Medicine, and currently directs multiple implementation studies in Asia and the U.S. In addition to her research and policy contributions, she remains actively involved in clinical care and mentorship.

Endocrinology

Alice Cheng

MD, FRCPC

Dr. Cheng is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto and an Endocrinologist at Trillium Health Partners and Unity Health Toronto. She has played an active role in shaping the Diabetes Canada clinical practice guidelines since 2003 and served as chair for the 2013 edition. Dr. Cheng is a recognized leader in diabetes care, having served as Past- Chair of the Professional Section of Diabetes Canada and as Chair of the Scientific Planning Committee for the 2023 and 2024 American Diabetes Association annual scientific meetings. She is also an Associate Editor for Diabetes Care journal and co-hosts the Diabetes Care “On Air” podcast. Her contributions to the field have earned her the Charles H. Best Award and the 9 Gerald S. Wong Service Award from Diabetes Canada. Dr. Cheng’s expertise includes diabetes management, prevention of chronic conditions, heart failure, diabetes-related comorbidities, and metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). She is also the creator of The Med Ed Pledge and CMEX, initiatives aimed at increasing diversity and inclusion in continuing medical education.

Desmondes Haynes

MD

Dr. Haynes is a practicing Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine specialist and the Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). He earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency, followed by a fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UMMC. Dr. Haynes has held several leadership roles at UMMC, including Professor of Medicine, Fellowship Program Director for Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, 10 and Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine. His academic focus and dedication to medical education continue to shape the future of healthcare professionals through his work with the School of Medicine.

Gastroenterology

Sarah Glover

DO, AGAF

Dr. Glover is the Section Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the C. Thorpe Ray MD Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. She is also a member of the Translational Oncology Research Program at the Tulane Cancer Center. Dr. Glover earned her medical degree from Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois, followed by residency and fellowship training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Illinois Hospital in Chicago. Her clinical and research interests include the medical management of complicated Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, short bowel syndrome, and hereditary alpha tryptasemia. Dr. Glover’s work focuses on the immune and genetic mechanisms underlying gastrointestinal inflammation, with the goal of improving diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in these areas.

Vikas Majithia

MBBS, MPH

Dr. Majithia is Division Chair of Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Board certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he brings extensive clinical, academic, and research expertise to his role. He earned his medical degree from Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences in India, completed residency training at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, and pursued a rheumatology fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). Prior to joining Mayo Clinic in 2022, Dr. Majithia held multiple leadership positions at UMMC, including Division Director of Rheumatology, Fellowship Program Director, and tenured Professor of Medicine. His research interests include axial spondyloarthritis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and inflammatory eye diseases. He serves as principal investigator on several clinical trials and longitudinal studies and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters. Dr. Majithia is actively engaged in projects such as the CLASSIC study, the PALS initiative, the PCORI-funded RAPROPR study, and the development of a lupus nephritis registry.

Raman Palabindala

MD, MBA

Dr. Palabindala has extensive experience in academic healthcare, hospital medicine, and healthcare technology. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine and holds an MBA with a Certificate in Health Sector Management (CHSM) from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Dr. Raman has served in various leadership roles, including executive council member at the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM). Recognized by the American College of Physicians as one of the US Top 10 Hospitalists in 2016, he is also a national speaker and writer on topics such as utilization management, electronic health records, and healthcare technology. Currently, Dr. Raman is the CEO of WatchRx, Inc., where he leads the global strategy for wearable technology and AI-driven analytics aimed at improving value-based care. His expertise extends to the management of clinical and financial outcomes in healthcare, with a focus on proactive care, senior healthcare, and digital health

Catherine Papamanoli

Dr. Aikaterini (Catherine) Papamanoli is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stony Brook University. She earned her medical degree from the University of Patras in Greece and completed her Infectious Disease Fellowship at Stony Brook University and her Internal Medicine Residency at Zucker School of Medicine/Northwell Health at Mather Hospital. Prior to her academic career in the United States, she gained extensive clinical experience in the United Kingdom, serving in multiple roles at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, including Clinical Fellow in Intensive Care Medicine and Junior Clinical Fellow in Acute and General Medicine. Dr. Papamanoli’s research interests focus on bacterial infections in critically ill patients and novel approaches in the management of bacterial endocarditis.

Hematology/Oncology

Irbaz B. Riaz

MBBS, PhD

Dr. Riaz is a physician-scientist specializing in the management of genitourinary cancers, including prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular malignancies. He completed his internal medicine residency at The University of Arizona Medical Center and fellowship training in Hematology/Oncology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester. In addition to his medical training, Dr. Riaz holds a doctorate in Clinical and Translational Science and a master’s degree in Biomedical Informatics. At Mayo Clinic, he leads research at the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and oncology, with expertise spanning natural language processing, predictive modeling, genomic data analysis, and computer vision in digital pathology and medical imaging. His current projects focus on leveraging large language models for clinical practice, developing AI-supported living clinical practice guidelines, and integrating multimodal data to improve early cancer detection and outcome prediction.

Xavier Rosello

Dr. RossellĂł is a clinical cardiologist at Hospital Universitari Son Espases in Mallorca, Spain, and a clinical scientist at the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) in Madrid. He also holds academic positions as Associate Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands and Honorary Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He completed clinical training in Barcelona, earned a PhD in cardiovascular science from University College London, and an MSc in Medical Statistics from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Dr. RossellĂł has authored over 160 publications, including work in New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, and European Heart Journal, and was instrumental in developing the MEESSI-AHF risk score. He serves as trial coordinator for the REBOOT trial, contributes to ESC clinical practice guidelines, and has held leadership roles in several major European cardiovascular research initiatives.
